BUYING, SELLING SOCCER STATUS EMBARRASSING

-

I’M SO embarrassed by the whole Swallows FC and Free State Stars saga dominating local football headlines.

In fact, this thing of selling and buying status is becoming normal in the PSL – from Dynamos selling to Amazulu, Bay United selling to Polokwane City, Black Aces to Cape Town City. Teams need to fight to regain their status like Cosmos. If we continue like this, then our football standard will never improve.

Let’s take Leicester City as an example. They were campaigning in the third tier of English football in the 2008/2009 season. In 2014/2015, they started a new life in the English Premier League and a season later they were crowned English Champions. No status was sold or bought, only true and fair competition.
