HERITAGE RACE TASKS SOWETO CLUB TO RUN SHOW

ZONKIZIZWE Athletics Club has been tasked to help in the running of the FNB Joburg 10km City Run in September, the organisers revealed yesterday.

The So we to based club will be involved in the logistics and will also oversee the start and finish areas on race day on September 24.

Zonkizizwe will also man water stations and marshal points and ensure that all personnel are deployed on route.

“We have a longstandi­ng relationsh­ip with the Zonkizizwe Athletics Club. We value their expertise in the field of road running [and] together with the club’s support and know-how, we look forward to hosting an event like no other in the bustling city of Johannesbu­rg,” said Michael Meyer, the director of Stillwater Sports, who are the brains behind the Heritage Day race.

“Johannesbu­rg is a fiery city that boasts a rich heritage with endless possibilit­ies,” said Neo Selebi, chairman of Zonkizizwe. “We are excited to be involved with an event that encourages runners to explore their city.”

Selebi says the club boasts a wealth of experience in different fields pertaining to athletics.

“We have route measurers, referees, coaches for track and field and road running.”

Entries for the race close on September 16 or once 10 947 entries have been reached.

Standard entry costs R160 for licensed runners and R180 for those who are unlicensed. There is also a gold package for R650 (licensed runners) and R670 (unlicensed).
