Vision 2022 bears fruit for junior teams

- Sowetan Reporter

SA FOOTBALL Association president Danny Jordaan says the national under-20 qualification for yet another major tournament is proof that the federation’s Vision 2022 master plan “was not another talk shop”.

“To those who thought Vision 2022 was another talk shop, the results of our national teams are there for all to see. Our aim is not only to dominate African football, but to be a major powerhouse on the globe in a few years to come.”

Jordaan’s statement yesterday comes after Amajita booked a berth at next year’s CAF Africa U20 Nations Cup in Zambia.

“Amajita have qualified undefeated and, not only that, they did so in comprehensive fashion.

“We are the only country sending two football teams to the Olympics from the continent, and one of the few in the world to do so. And with the amount of resources we poured [in] to prepare the two teams, we might surprise a few at the Olympics.”

Apart from winning the Cosafa Cup, Jordaan said all of the junior national teams were fast realising their potential.

“Soon Amajimbos [SA U17 men’s team] will be taking on Tanzania … We are very confident the U17s will continue the winning streak … Our blueprint … is to make sure all our national teams are constantly among the top three in Africa and top 20 in the world; that is what we aim to achieve come 2022.”
