SUNDOWNS’ TARGET FOR NEW SEASON
Star banks on new signings
CAN Mamelodi Sundowns achieve a clean sweep in the new season?
After signing Sibusiso Vilakazi, Lucky Mohomi, Ricardo Nascimento and Thapelo Morena, the Brazilians faithful are in confident mode judging by their social media postings.
Admittedly, this is easier said that done, but Sundowns midfielder Keagan Dolly is in equally a confident mood.
After all, Sundowns did win the league and the Telkom Knockout in the past season. Now they are aiming even higher, according to Dolly.
“I think we have the quality at Sundowns to do that [make a clean sweep], even though it is never easy. We are the team to beat this season,” the 23-yearold said this week. He is well aware that Downs’ opponents are plotting their downfall.
“The teams are going to start focusing on how we play. People already know what we are going to do when we have the ball, so it’s going to be difficult. But I think we have the quality to do well in every competition this season,” he insisted.
“I think with the success in the (CAF) Champions League thus far, the momentum and with the games that we played when other teams were off, firstly for the MTN8 I think that momentum will carry us. Yeah, it is just for us to take it one game at a time,” he continued.
The Bafana international added that he believes the team’s new signings can play a part rather than just add to the numbers. Dolly was expected to warm the bench after joining Sundowns at the beginning of last season, but turned out to be one of the key players.
“I think I showed some youngsters out there that it is easy to go to a big team and play. I think that’s the only reason why I played, because I told myself that it is up to me on how much I wanted it and I have worked hard towards achieving that goal.”
