THE Mandela Stage at the Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein is celebrating Women’s Month with a musical.

Supreme Divas opened lasy week thursday and features five talented singers who celebrate womanwood, beauty and life through song.

The five singers – Tia Herman, Lelo Ramasimong, Tracey-Lee Oliver, Elizca Coetzer and Marianthe Panas – are backed by a talented band. They perform cover songs of world famous stars such as Beyonce, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Maria Carey, Etta James, Barbara Streisand, Bette Midler, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Donna Summer.

A fitting tribute is also made to a few of South Africa’s own divas including Brenda Fassie, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Miriam Makeba and Claire Johnston.

The beauty of this musical is that it’s not based on any person’s story – it’s just a celebratory production.

In the first act, the musicians take the audience down memory lane with songs such as where, I’m Every Woman, Hot Stuff, No More Tears, Stop in the Name of Love, Valerie and Do You Know Where You’re Going To.

The divas open the second act of their production with Fassie’s smash-hit and follow this up with the foot-stomping

The production is awe-inspiring with music for both young and old. The hit songs will surely stay with audiences long after the curtain has fallen.

The musical is a blend of pop and funk and is made memorable by the Supreme Divas’ outstanding performances.

Each song is rendered with the intention of show-casing the singers unique voice.

The glamorous outfits and colourful stage designs compliment the singers beautiful voices.

Supreme Divas is the ultimate concert experience, honouring women who have made an indelible mark on the local and international music industry.
