VARIOUS Gauteng communities will take to the sporting fields this weekend when a number of sport and recreational activities take place at different centres across the province.

Here are the events to lookout for: TOMORROW Tshwane Rural Sport Development clinics, Themba Sport Stadium, Hammanskraal (8.30am)

The Rural Sport Development Programme aims to revive sport and unearth talent in farming and rural areas and disadvantaged communities which are largely under the leadership of traditional authorities.

The programme is targeted at coaches and athletes, and is meant at providing support in areas including technical, tactical skills and proper training.

The following codes will be covered: netball, football, athletics and rugby. This is as the province prepares to defend its national school championships title. TOMORROW AND SUNDAY Women’s Month Camp for Girls, High Performance Centre, Tshwane (8.30am)

As a part of its women’s empowerment programme, the Gauteng department of sport, arts, culture and recreation, in partnership with Swimming SA will host the annual Women’s Month swim camp for girls.

About 30 talented young female swimmers between the ages of 10 and 16 from different development swimming clubs in the province will take part in the camp.

This is part of efforts to increase the pool of swimmers, especially within previously disadvantaged communities, thereby giving them skills to elevate to the next level. Various qualified and experienced coaches and speakers will impart their knowledge with the girls throughout the two-day camp. –
