CELEBRITIES have thrown their weight behind the Proudly South African campaign to buy local this festive season. The drive, going as #LocallsLekker, was launched on Wednesday in Maboneng, Johannesburg, and has been endorsed by some of the biggest names in showbiz.

Idols SA judge Somizi Mhlongo, said getting behind it was a no brainer. “I will only be buying local this festive season, and I’m telling everyone else to do the same. The shops are full of fabulous local products you can buy as gifts and produce to cook up a storm.”

Khumbul’ekhaya host Andile Gaelesiwe said it was almost a shame that a campaign of this nature had to be conceived to sell South Africa to its people. Proudly SA CEO Eustace Mashimbye said buying local would make a positive impact on the ailing economy and unemployment rate.
