- Sibabalwe Bingwa

SOUTH Africa’s Carissa Cupido has beaten stiff competition to earn the title of TLC’s Next Great Presenter.

It was a nail-biter as she went up against Zimbabwe’s Karen Paida and Kenya’s Charlie Karumi. Now that she has it in the bag, and her star is set to rise in a big way, Cupido is appreciative.

“I feel so thrilled and honoured. It’s all so surreal. God’s timing is perfect. I kept reminding myself to live in the present and to appreciate every moment. Thank you Africa. I couldn’t have done it without the TLC fans,” she said. Carissa will soon jet off to London to present TLC’s Most Extreme, a new four-part series coming early next year.

“The next thing is to pack my bags and go to London, where I’ve always wanted to visit. To be there and doing what I’ve always wanted to do is a dream come true.

“For me, TLC’s Next Great Presenter represents the peak of my career and the start of a new era.

“You can look forward to watching me having fun as I start this incredible journey – look out Africa,” she said.

The radio personality clinched the title because of the top three finalists, she secured the majority of the more than 200 000 votes.

The host of the show Thando Thabethe applauded Cupido. “All three contestants were amazing and they all had something unique to offer. I wish Carissa all the best and look forward to seeing her on the red carpet.”
