Prof a one-man band on a one-man SABC board
THE chair of the SABC board, Mbulaheni Maguvhe, is a strange professor. Good professors meticulously follow evidence before reaching conclusions. Not so our SABC Maguvhe.
Like his political boss Communications Minister Faith Muthambi, or stubborn sidekick, the Cloudy One, Maguvhe is as obdurate as a Rottweiler. All his colleagues on the 12member board have resigned or fallen by the wayside. He is now a one-member board chairing a board of himself. Not even a parliamentary portfolio committee, united about his dysfunctionality could persuade him to go.
Maguvhe, like a professor lecturing to an empty lecture hall, is deaf to rational discourse. How did this person become chair of the board? Perhaps this is a futile question in Jacob Zuma’s SA. His appointment is so typical of many in our benighted public sector who are not fit for purpose. So, Maguvhe is one of a kind.
But, according to ANC MP Vincent Smith, if Maguvhe does not voluntarily vamoose, his removal will be protracted and incur hundreds of thousands of taxpayer rands. My advice is go man, just go.
