Top-class football on the box

- Daniel Mothowagae

ARMCHAIR fans can look forward to bumper football action this weekend.

The games might not all be on TV but the line-up is made up of the Absa Premiership, Premier League (England), Bundesliga (Germany), La Liga (Spain) – all tomorrow and will be rounded off by the Milan and Instanbul derbies on Sunday. While champions Sundowns are playing catch-up in the domestic league after their CAF Champions League triumph, Chiefs will be looking to keep up with the leading pack.

Man United v Arsenal (Old Trafford, 2.30pm on SS3)

The verbal barbs between United coach Jose Mourinho and his Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger are well-documented. Tomorrow’s key focus is on whether Wenger will break his duck against the “Special One”.

Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Munich (Signal Iduna Park, 7.30pm)

Dormund – chasing a first Bundesliga home win – will be attempting to close a six-point gap to the champions.

Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid (Estadio Vicente Calderon, 9.45pm on SSMaximo)

This Madrid derby will be the first time the two rivals meet since the Champions League final that Zinedine Zidane’s Real won on penalties in May. Real are top of La Liga, six points above Diego Simeone’s side.

Inter Milan v AC Milan (Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, 9.45pm)

They might no longer be regarded as European powerhouses of old but the Derby della Madonnina still produces fireworks.

Galatasaray v Fenerbahce (Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, 7pm)

The Istanbul derby will pit two Dutchmen in the dugouts: Galatasaray’s Jan Olde Riekerink and Fenerbahce’s Dick Advocaat.
