Rookies primed to fight for promotion

- Tshepang Mailwane

COACH of National First Division rookies Real Kings, Simo Dladla, has mixed feelings about the team’s start in the second tier this season.

They are in seventh place after 10 matches, not a bad run for newbies.

But Dladla can’t help but feel the team would be in a better position had they taken opportunities in matches where they dropped points.

“What we’ve learnt about that league is that it’s tough. You have to be mentally prepared. It’s a hard running league and the teams fight till the last minute.

“We dominated in the ABC Motsepe League, but this league is not easy,” said Dladla, although he believes his side can challenge for promotion.

“We are not entirely happy. We control most games and end up sharing points. We controlled the game against Tuks and we were leading 2-1, but we shared the points. We were leading 2-0 against Mthatha Bucks, but we ended up drawing. I guess I can say we are content, taking into account that we are newbies.” FIXTURES (all 3.30pm unless stated) Tomorrow AmaTuks v Magesi, Tuks Leopards v Mbombela, Thohoyandou Stadium FC CPT v Stellenbosch, NNK Rugby Stadium Milano v Santos, Athlone Bucks v Eagles, Mthatha Sunday All Stars v Spurs, Athlone Cosmos v Kings, Olen Park, 2.30pm; AmaZulu v Thanda, King Zwelithini
