‘PROBE ALL THOSE FINGERED’
ALL ANC leaders implicated in the former public protector Thuli Madonsela’s State of Capture report, including President Jacob Zuma, must be probed by the party’s integrity commission, acting ANC Western Cape chairman Khaya Magaxa said yesterday.
“We would like everybody that has been mentioned in that report to actually undergo a process of the integrity commission,” he said during a press briefing in Cape Town.
“The integrity commission must invite anybody announced to have been affected by that report.”
Magaxa took over as chairman of the ANC in the province when Marius Fransman was suspended from the party after he was accused of sexually harassing Louisa Wynand.
Magaxa is also the Western Cape secretary for the SA Communist Party which has so far taken a hardline stance against state capture.
His approach is markedly different to that of his predecessor, Fransman, who was sympathetic to Zuma.
Magaxa yesterday said the process should not be a witch-hunt‚ but a means for “comrades” to explain themselves.
This was one of the resolutions taken at the Western Cape’s provincial executive committee meeting.
It was reported last year that Zuma had been summoned by the integrity commission, however, at the time ANC spokesman Zizi Kodwa said he was meeting with the commission to review the state and health of the party. This followed the release of the former Madonsela’s report.
The report found that Zuma may have breached his executive code of ethics and may be conflicted over his son Duduzane’s relationship with the Gupta family.
It also exposed links between some ministers, such as Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Des van Rooyen, and former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe.
In her remedial action, Madonsela directed that a commission of inquiry be conducted and that Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng appoint the sole judge to preside over the commission. Zuma is taking the remedial action in Madonsela’s report on review in the high court.
