SA has local coaches with talent

-

ON THE back page of Sowetan of February 14, in response to the question Rhoo asked if a local coach will fit Bafana, the answer is a big YES. We have very good coaches in SA who can do well in guiding Bafana to a place of milk and honey, namely:

Pitso Mosimane is the most successful coach in SA. He proved that by becoming the first black SA coach to win back-to-back Absa Premier Leagues and added more weight by again winning the African Champions League. During his time as Bafana coach, he was not given enough time to prove himself because at Safa there is too much politics.

But Mosimane should consider going back to coach Bafana.

Gavin Hunt did exceptionally well by guiding Wits to second in the Premier Soccer League last season and, this season, he is still challenging for the league title.

This clearly tells us SA has talented coaches but because of politics in soccer, we will never achieve what other countries do because we don’t believe in South African coaches.

Safa still believes SA coaches are cheaper and less valuable than coaches from abroad. Shakes Mashaba was paid R500 000 monthly but a new coach from abroad will be paid double or even triple that.

When the new coach fails to deliver, Safa will sack him and replace him with a local coach and we will be told it wants to give home coaches a chance to prove themselves. Loddrick Komane Acornhoek
