JUNIOR DOWNS WALK PATH OF BIG BROTHERS

Young Brazilians crowned Diski champs

MAMELODI Sundowns’ MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) coach, David Notoane has heaped praise on his side in the wake of their impressive triumph in the PSL reserve league.

The young Brazilians took a leaf out of their successful senior team’s book as they drubbed Cape Town City 4-1 in the final day of the MDC in Benoni yesterday, and atoned for the near misses of the last two seasons.

They finished four points ahead of second-placed Bloemfontein Celtic, and now have secured a trip to Holland in the offseason.

Notoane’s side scored their first goal in the 10th minute via captain Motjeka Madisha. A few minutes before the half time break, the Tshwane side doubled their advantage courtesy of Keletso Makgwala who would later bag the man of the match award.

Duncan Adonis scored for the Cape side to make it 2-1, but Samuel Julies scored the third one for Sundowns before Eric Ntlaba sealed a comfortable win with a fourth goal.

“I would like to thank the president (Patrice Motsepe) for winning this title. He always pushed me to believe in my abilities,” Notoane said amid spirited celebrations by his troops. “I am happy today we made him proud. “We had a great season overall. I hope (first team) coach Pitso (Mosimane) will have a look at some of these players because they are promising. The future looks bright.”

He added: “We are very excited about the trip [to Netherlands], we are looking forward to it.”

The victory guarantees the junior Downs a trip to Netherlands, where they will have an eight-day training camp later this year.

Last year MDC winners Lamontville Golden Arrows were also afforded the same trip.

Meanwhile, Downs skipper Madisha said: “I am very positive going forward because we did well and that might open some opportunities for us in future.”
