Gordhan is an enemy of the ANC, says Kebby
Vets leader calls for disciplinary action
Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans’ Association chairman Kebby Maphatsoe has lashed out at former finance minister Pravin Gordhan, saying he is “bitter”.
He called on the ANC to take disciplinary action against Gordhan and said he was an enemy of the organisation.
Maphatsoe said yesterday Gordhan, who was removed from the cabinet, was behaving in an un-ANC manner.
“If he mobilises against the ANC he identifies himself as an outsider. If he continues doing what he does the ANC will have no option but to charge him.”
Maphatsoe, a fervent Jacob Zuma supporter, said Gordhan was unashamedly mobilising the masses against the ANCled government.
He insinuated that Gordan wanted to be expelled from the ANC so that he could get public sympathy.
Zuma’s supporters are expected to use the NEC meeting next month to raise their concerns about utterances made by Gordhan.
Maphatsoe accused Gordhan of using the struggle stalwart Ahmed Kathrada memorial services to attack Zuma and the ANC-led government.
Other ANC NEC members who have also taken aim at Gordhan include Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane and newly appointed Police Minister Fikile Mbalula. Mbalula went as far as suggesting that Gordhan should form his own party.
SACP spokesman Alex Mashilo said Gordhan was a disciplined and hard-working cadre of the movement.
