New Isibaya actress and overnight hit Michelle Mosalakae was born to be on TV.

The talented actress, who has only been exposed a few months on local television screens in her first TV role, says she is still amazed by how popular her character is.

“I didn’t prepare for this. It’s an amazing feeling that the response has been so overwhelming. I didn’t expect this,” she said.

Mosalakae, who plays Zakithi on the Mzansi Magic soapie, has taken social media and viewers by storm after her character was introduced in March. She said it took three months of auditions before she was called for the role.

“I got a call from my agent to go to Bombshell Productions for an audition. I only found out later that I was auditioning for a character on Isibaya. It was only a few weeks later that I was told that a character would be created for me,” she said.

Mosalakae, from Mabopane in Pretoria, graduated with an honours in drama from Rhodes University last year.

She said she was interested in stage directing and produc- tion when the television bug bit her after graduating.

“It was just something I am interested in and didn’t really see myself as a television actress. It was after graduating that I had thought okay let me go this way. I just did not think I will get a role on Isibaya this early on.”

Mosalakae said her biggest disappointment to date has been missing out on roles she really wanted to play.

“But that does not bother me anymore because everything worked out in the end.”
