NFD top scorer ready to move

Four Premiership teams interested in Eagles’ George

- By Sihle Ndebele

Royal Eagles striker Sedwyn George is adamant that he will be playing in the Absa Premiership next season after finishing as the NFD’s top-scorer with 20 goals this season.

George, 25, joined Eagles from ABC Motsepe League side Maritzburg City at the start of the season.

“There are four teams who have shown interest in my services but we have not decided which team will be suitable for me. My agent [Russell Louise of Players’ Hub] is in charge of everything,’’ George told Sowetan yesterday, without revealing the clubs.

He added: “I trust my qualities and I have gained experience in the NFD. Football is about developing and as a player you always dream about making big moves. I know that the PSL is not the same as the second-tier, but I will take the opportunity with both hands,’’ stated the Pietermaritzburgborn talisman, known as Zlatan Ibrahimovic to his peers.

Although his displays were not enough to help Eagles get promoted, George maintains that the KwaZulu-Natal-based side did well despite finishing fourth and missing out on a play-off berth by a point.

“Next season I am positive the team will get promoted. Building a competitive team is a process, you must give it time,’’ he said .

George spent two years playing Futsal indoor soccer and credits his finishing instincts and great composure to the time he spent playing indoor football with Young Italians, a Pietermaritzburg Futsal team.

“Playing indoor soccer sharpened by finishing skills and composure. I would advise aspiring footballers to start by playing indoor soccer because it moulds one’s skills,’’ advised George, whose 20-goal haul includes three hat-tricks.
