Masehe fancies a coach who understands culture at Stars
Being in sync with the club’s culture will be vital
As Free State Stars look set to appoint Serame Letsoaka’s replacement soon, captain Paulus Masehe has urged the club to bring in a coach who understands the culture of Ea Lla Koto.
Black Leopards’ Belgian mentor Jean Luscuito is believed to be leading the race for the vacant position at the Bethlehembased side.
However, Masehe who has made more than 240 appearances for Stars wishes their choice turns out to be someone who knows the culture and values of the team thoroughly.
“I would like ... a coach who understands the club’s culture and its values. Each and every team in South Africa has its own culture.
He must be able to build on what we have been doing. The new coach must be able to push players to perform consistently,” Masehe told Sowetan yesterday.
Despite finishing 14th and escaping the danger of playing the play-offs only through a better goal difference, the 33year-old defender maintains that Letsoaka did a great job citing that he had a good relationship with his players.
“Letsoaka was very good to us as his players. He found a team in a very difficult situation.
He tried to change several things and towards the end of the season it started to show as we were gaining momentum,” stated the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns man.
He added: “I am optimistic that we will do well this coming season. We are in the second week of our preparations.
I am happy that nothing is disturbing us. Last season we were destabilised by the news that the team was on sale and we ended up not doing well.”
Ea Lla Koto have already hired Sly Mosala as assistant coach while they wait to confirm Luscuito, who has quit Leopards.
