The Premier Soccer League has dismissed a “leaked” draft fixture list for next season as meaningless, insisting the official version will only be released next week.

“What I have seen on social media is only an early version of our draft fixtures. It’s impossible to leak our fixtures,” PSL spokesman Lux September said.

He said the league usually generates four drafts of fixtures before the list is sent to the clubs and broadcasters for confirmation.

“Once the fixture list returns from the broadcasters, it is then adopted by the executive and released without anyone leaving the room. So no one can leak it. We will release the official fixtures next week.”

Sowetan has seen the draft fixture list, which has the 201718 season kicking off on August 12 with the MTN8 quarterfinals.

Absa Premiership fixtures would then start on Friday, August 18, with champs Bidvest Wits hosting Cape Town City.

The league could find itself inevitably having to postpone some of Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United’s fixtures, as the two Tshwane sides battle it out in the quarterfinals of the CAF competitions.

For instance, the MTN8 semifinals are currently pencilled in for September 9, with Sundowns and SuperSport scheduled to play continental fixtures that weekend.

Soweto derbies are set for November 4 and March 3.

The MTN8 final is set down for September 23, the Telkom Knockout decider for December 2 and Nedbank Cup final for May 19 next year.

There is provision for the usual festive season break, from December 23 until January 2, but there’s no break envisaged for the African Nations Championship, taking place in Kenya early next year, should Bafana Bafana make it there.

AmaZulu, who bought Thanda Royal Zulu’s status, host Free State Stars first up.
