ROY’S REGIS A RIGHT ROYAL BET

Howells’ runner to enjoy this 1400m trip

- RACING EDITOR Anton Marcus

Trainer Duncan Howells has his yard in tip-top shape and his Australian import Roy’s Regis looks the banker bet for Greyville Polytrack today in Race 7.

This Choisir juvenile did not show much in his first two starts on the turf over 1200m but it was his third start that caught the eye when quickening best of all to beat Hero’s Welcome by 1.75 lengths when trying the Polytrack for the first time.

Clearly Roy’s Regis took a fancy to the surface and the step up in distance to 1400m looks the way to go with him.

Jockey Keagan de Melo is riding well and the colt is well enough drawn in stall No 5.

Another two runners worth following on the card are Lucius Fox in Race 1 and Yess in Race 3.

Trainer Paul Gadsby likes to send out his newcomers with improvement to come so Lucius Fox did very well to be runner-up behind On That Boulevard on debut so with normal improvement the Var looks the right one. Jockey Anthony Delpech gets the ride.

With Torrey Pines scratched from race 3 it has opened up and Yess could be the runner who benefits.

Trainer Joey Ramsden has been quick to step up the distance of his runner Yess after a debut saw the juvenile filly finish only 4.05 lengths behind Marsala.

This Casino Prince filly will be ridden by Morne Winnaar who can continue on the good week he is having after being aboard two winners at Flamingo Park on Monday.

Yess will have to overcome a wide draw but sometimes that problem is a blessing in disguise as she could avoid kickback and come to the favoured outside part of the home straight.

Others to consider as dangers to her are Pomona, Roy’s Hollyhock and Exquisite Eight.

The Anton Marcus-ridden Pomona has held her form well enough but is one-paced and will need everything to fall right for her to win.

Roy’s Hollyhock has done better on the turf but could still run into the placings.
