What it takes to be a good leader
Every community, company or country needs a good leader to ensure that everything is done accordingly.
John Maxwell once said: “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.”
I also believe that a good leader must be a good listener, a patient observer and someone who takes time to think of what to say to other people.
You also need to be aware of your own weaknesses while using your strengths to empower yourself and others.
Most importantly, it is important to ask and acknowledge when you do not know something. Although you are a leader, allow yourself to be led because that is what makes a good leader.
The fact that you have a team that you work with is proof that you need it to help you do things right. Listen to and consider other people’s opinions, even if they disagree with yours.
Become the kind of leader that people would follow voluntarily, even if you had no title or position. Leadership is lifting a person’s vision, raising someone’s performance to a higher standard and building a personality beyond its normal limitations.
School teachers must also acknowledge that in order for them to become good teachers, they must not only teach children only, they must also learn from them. Let us all aspire to become good leaders in our domains.
