‘KK’ gives blessings to his son

Sono has put past dispute behind him

Despite filing papers in the labour court challenging the ownership of Orlando Pirates in 2015, Julius “KK” Sono has given his son Rulani Mokwena his blessings after he recently joined the Buccaneers from Mamelodi Sundowns.

He signed a three-year deal to assist Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic in his second spell at the Soweto giants where his father, uncle and grandfather played in the past.

His grandpa Eric “Scara” Sono was the captain of the club before his sons KK and Jomo also turned out for the Ghost.

Two years ago, Sowetan reported that Sono was challenging Pirates’ chairman Irvin Khoza about the ownership of the club.

At that time, he claimed that he had the support of 53 supporters’ club branches.

Nevertheless, Sono has seemingly put the dispute behind him and expects his son, Mokwena, to make him proud at the Sea Robbers.

“I have forgotten about the past. I am thankful that now I am in good terms with ubaba uKhoza. I am confident that my son will do well there. He is a hard working young coach. I have wished him the best of luck,” Sono told Sowetan yesterday.

“The whole family is very happy because Pirates is the club that is affiliated with the family.

“It will not be easy for him to match the standard which was set by me, Jomo and my father [Eric] but I trust him because he has shown at Sundowns that he is a good coach.”
