Minnie’s white wedding plans

Traditional wedding a highlight for the TV personality

Minnie Dlamini has got that newlywed glow. Time Out met with Dlamini on a windy Wednesday evening in Johannesburg as we get ready to bid the winter blues farewell.

The 27-year-old bombshell is a ray of sunshine stepping into the room full of fashionistas including Norma Gigaba and Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe on the first day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Ahead of the newest KLûK CGDT showcase, she is paying homage to the fashion designer duo. She looks radiant in a sequined KLûK CGDT minidress, worn over black skinny jeans. But it’s her must-have accessory – newlywed glow and bright smile – that is stealing the spotlight.

“It has been an incredible year. A lot of firsts and new things for me happened,” she says. “I’m just excited about a year of happiness and love. My traditional wedding has been my highlight.”

Dlamini had her lavish and star-studded traditional wedding to beau Quinton Jones a month ago in her hometown of Durban. Her A-list friends Basetsana Kumalo, Anele Mdoda, Unathi Msengana, Zakes Bantwini and Nandi Madida witnessed the colourful shindig. She looked stunning in a creamy hand-beaded gown, styled with a matching isicholo (traditional Zulu hat) and chunky neckpiece. All the clothing worn by Dlamini, Jones, bridesmaids and groomsmen on the day were custom-made by fashion designer Asanda Madyibi.

“It was just a day filled with so much love and happiness. I had all my friends and family. It exceeded my expectations. I’m just happy that I’m in a solid place and I was able to find love. I’m excited about what the future holds for me.”

Dlamini is preparing for her white wedding later this year. Our sister publication Sunday World has reported that MultiChoice has secured the rights to televise it.

“I cannot wait for my upcoming white wedding and to share it with the rest of South Africa,” she says. “Without giving too much away, my wedding dress is something you have never seen me in. I’m in a red-carpet dress almost every week. So I wanted people to see me in a different light. So this is exactly what my wedding dress is going to be.”

Dlamini started 2017 with a huge career shake-up. After cutting ties with SABC Sport, she joined SuperSport. Alongside Lungile Radu, she has been hosting lifestyle, entertainment and sports TV show Homeground since May. The show is simulcast on both Mzansi Magic and SuperSport at 9.30pm on Mondays.

“What is so exciting about that show is that we are one of the highest-rated shows on the channel and the highest rated on a Monday night, across all channels during that time slot.

“It’s always a big deal to move from one channel to another. ‘Are you going to move with your viewers?’ My fans have been amazing in that sense. I’m just really happy to be on a successful show right now.”

Known for her acting roles in Rockville and The Wild, Dlamini teases that she is plotting her comeback after taking a hiatus. “I’m just waiting to sign on the dotted line.

“A very light and fun role has been presented to me. I have not acted in a long time and I missed it. Currently, I’m drawn to roles that are challenging. If not challenging, I’m drawn to roles that make people feel good. I’m all about spreading happiness.”
