Series of auctions for redundant state assets

Construction equipment to be sold on site in various North West towns

-

Starting next Thursday, Tirhani Auctioneers will play host to a quadruple series of dynamic disposals in four different locations across North West – heralding one of the largest hauls of redundant government assets “that must be sold!”

Better still, says managing director Jonathan Terespolsky, is the fact that the vast assembly of construction equipment – and there are some 400 lots altogether – will be sold on site.

“Usually auctioneers bring assets such as these to urban centres at substantial, additional cost,” says Terespolsky.

“This time around we’ve decided to minimise overheads by selling the assets in their respective locations.

“In other words, there is no extraneous expenses that could possibly affect the noreserve appeal of these lots,” he says.

The first auction will be held in Potchefstroom on August 24, followed by consecutive sales in Vryburg, Mahikeng and Rustenburg on August 29, 30 and 31, respectively.

“Volume really is the name of the game here and the fact that these assets were used by the government for infrastructural construction attests to the durability and credibility of the assets in question.

“More importantly, because of the urgency to circulate these items back into the market as soon as possible, thereby unlocking rationalised value, our clients are keen to let it go without any delay.”

Some of the noteworthy assets on offer are 140G and 120G Caterpillars, graders, a variety of bakkies, Bomag rollers and more.

“Each and every one of these auctions would be an ideal opportunity for an independent, SMME contractor to acquire a reliable workhorse at a fraction of its retail price”, Terespolsky says.

“Entrepreneurs vying for tenders are well aware of the cost attached to equipment. It often serves as a prohibitive impediment towards getting a foot in the door of construction work. That’s why we view these auctions as construction sales to help build the local economies of the locales in which they can be found.”

This is one incident of the government leading by example when it talks about localised economic bolstering as part of its National Development Plan.

“Too many times are country locales not the beneficiaries of its own leveraged potential, subsequently losing out to urban centres because of the perceived concentrated buying power that is to be found in metropolitan areas”, Terespolsky says.

“However, it has been proven that there is enough capital in country areas to merit a spate of sales such as the ones coming up under our banner. Therefore, it makes perfect sense to ensure that bidders get more bang for their buck by selling these assets on site, without incurring unnecessary overhead expenditure.”
