A senior Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) engineer Sam Nkuna who was allegedly killed by his lover, had his house broken into and belongings stolen.

A source close to the investigation said when they visited Nkuna’s luxurious home in ThornBrook Golf Estate, north of Pretoria, they discovered that a television set, washing machine and several pairs of shoes were missing.

“Nkuna’s friend, who was supposed to go out with him on August 8, also confirmed to us that several items were taken from the house.

“The friend told us that he was scheduled to go out with Nkuna because it was a holiday,” the source said.

Hawks spokeswoman Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said they were aware of the breakin and the missing items.

“Our investigations are under way to establish who took those items,” Mulamu said.

Another source said Nkuna withdrew R300 from his bank account on the night he disappeared.

Nkuna, 33, was allegedly murdered by his lover, Freddy Thabo Kekana, 31.

Kekana was arrested last week at the Zion Christian Church headquarters in Moria, Limpopo, where he had fled to after allegedly burying Nkuna. He is facing murder and kidnapping charges.

Nkuna went missing on August 8 after allegedly spending the night with Kekana.

Kekana allegedly confessed to police that he had killed Nkuna in self-defence after he had tried to rape him.

Kekana appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court last week.

Nkuna will be buried in Dennilton, Limpopo, tomorrow.
