Tenge in second defence of her WBF title belt
Main bout as Women’s Only events wrap up
“All good and bad things come to an end.”
Emerging boxing trainer Samson Ndlovu sounded like he was citing a poem when he issued this warning yesterday at the Kagiso Recreation and Memorial Centre, which will host Noni “She Bee Stingin” Tenge’s second defence of her WBF junior middleweight belt tonight.
Tenge, 35, will face Mapule Ngubane, 29, in the main bout of the third instalment of Boxing SA’s “Women Only” tournament.
The event is staged by Mbali Zantsi’s Showtime Boxing Productions.
Tenge, from Mdantsane, has previously held the WBF and IBF welterweight belts.
“We accepted the fight at a short notice – last Friday – but we did not hesitate because I know what I have in Mapule, She looked stunning two weekends ago, stopping Xolelwa Soka in five rounds in East London,” said Ndlovu.
Tenge, who last defended against Hungarian Szilvia Szabados in Durban in March, said: “I have no doubt that I will retain my title.”
Unathi Myekeni will oppose Asandiswa Nxokwana for a vacant WBF featherweight championship belt in the main supporting bout.
Smangele Radebe and Ellen Simanga will meet in a non-title 10rounder in the bantamweight class, while Tshepang Majola and Themba Zuma will meet over four rounds in the bantamweight.
Sindiswe Ncube and Mpumi Sibiya will square up in a four-rounder featherweight class.
The tournament is backed by the Gauteng government and Sports and Reaction SA.
Sports Minister Thulas Nxesi said: “This event, as we wrap up Women’s Month celebrations, demonstrates that we are serious about boxing development and women boxing in general.”
Action will begin at 6pm.
