Stars dazzle at the Style Awards
Thembisa recalls mother’s love
It was a night of all things stylish at Sandton City’s Diamond Walk on Sunday night when celebs gathered for the SA Style Awards.
The glamourous affair, now in its 21st year, not only had champagne flowing but tears too as the recipients gave emotional speeches.
Former Our Perfect Wedding host Thembisa Mdoda, who came out tops in the Most Stylish Performing Artist in Film or TV category, could not hold back the waterworks as she thanked all parties that inspire her style, most importantly her late mother.
“I really have to thank my mother who I used to watch dress every day.
I still have her clothes today and I still wear [them]. I loved that I always saw that sparkle in her eyes when she looked good. She celebrated every single curve on her body,” she said before taking a moment to compose herself.
Actress Dineo Moeketsi and her rapper boyfriend Solo accepted the award for the Most Stylish Couple. Dineo explained why Solo deserved the praise. “Thank you for playing with me, every time we do this thing. It is a fun little tango and dance between us. That’s why it works out so well and you always tell me how beautiful I am. No other approval matters most before yours,” Dineo said to Solo, who couldn’t help but blush. Although not present, DJ Black Coffee walked away with the award for Most Stylish Performing Artist in Music, while presenter LootLove bagged the Most Innovative Style gong.
Top Billing’s Ayanda Thabethe took the Most Stylish Media Personality, while stylist and blogger Kefilwe Mabote got The Next Big Thing/Style in the City award.
It was also a couple’s night out for LootLove, who was accompanied by her rapper beau Reason. Thabethe and her musician-cum-presenter boyfriend Dash looked adorable as Dash helped her carry the train of her Gert-Johan Coetzee gown.
Veteran singer Tamara Dey dazzled in her red Khosi Nkosi body hugging gown to show off her eight-month baby bump. She said she was left with four weeks to deliver her baby girl. Dey added that it had been an easy pregnancy and she has been working throughout. She performed a tribute to Johannesburg style icon Jenny Andrew who died in September..
