Larsen backs sharper Arrows

Abafana Bes’thende targets maximum points against City

Golden Arrows have gone seven matches without a win in all competitions, but coach Clinton Larsen has backed his boys to turn things around.

Abafana Bes’thende are one of the top sides in terms of their log position, which perhaps is the reason there hasn’t been much talk of their struggles.

Larsen’s side earned a point in a goalless draw against Orlando Pirates on Tuesday night, and as they prepare to face Cape Town City at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday (8.15pm), Larsen is gunning for all three points.

“I think it’s going to be a difficult game. There’s a lot of experience in that Cape Town City team and it’s not going to be easy for us, but we are playing at home.”

Larsen’s wary, though, of the Citizens, who are led by Benni McCarthy. “I think Benni has done a very good job, it’s his first season and a lot of people forget that he’s a rookie coach in the PSL.”

Meanwhile, Bucs mentor Micho Sredojevic has admitted that his team can be better in the final third. Pirates look good going forward, but their final passes are wayward.

“We are having a good amount of bringing the ball into the final third … so we need to find a formula for this [to ensure Pirates retain possession]. It’s a concern.”

In 13 matches in all competitions, Pirates, who travel to Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday, have only managed to score more than one goal in a match just twice.
