Misfiring Morris out to make amends

Ajax striker feels he owes his ailing team some goals

- By Gomolemo Motshwane

Ajax Cape Town striker Tashreeq Morris aims to make it up to his teammates for failing to convert the numerous scoring opportunities they create for him during games.

Morris is not pleased with his efforts in front of goal, having bagged two goals in nine appearances this season.

The 23-year-old will have his chance against SuperSport United at Mbombela Stadium tomorrow (7.30pm).

“The guys have been creating chances for me and I have been letting them down. I have not been having luck and I have hit the goal posts a couple of times,” Morris told Sowetan.

“It will all come together though. I just need to take the chances as they come my way without worrying about nerves or confidence affecting me.”

The Urban Warriors will face a dejected SuperSport after they lost the CAF Confederation Cup final 2-1 on aggregate to TP Mazembe at the weekend.

Ajax also enter the encounter fresh from their own disappointment after they relinquished a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with AmaZulu in the league match at the weekend.

“The guys were gutted after losing when we were 2-0 up at some point in the match. Now we face SuperSport in a short span of time with our disappointment still very fresh. We are hyped up for the game, though” the Ajax youth academy product declared.

Over the last two seasons Morris has had fitness problems due to multiple injuries. Now healthy, he is looking to repay the faith coach Stanley Menzo has shown in him.

“It means a lot. The coach has shown faith in me and I appreciate that. I hope I remain injury-free because right now I feel fresh and sharper,” Morris said.
