Another abduction rattles edgy Kagiso

Dealer ‘wanted sex for drugs’

- By Tankiso Makhetha

The community of Kagiso has been left stunned by another abduction of a young woman who was allegedly kidnapped by a drug dealer.

The latest abduction came after violent protests erupted last week following the abduction of Tshepiso Pule, allegedly by Nigerian drug dealers.

Police spokesman Captain Solomon Sibiya yesterday confirmed that the young lady was abducted at the weekend, but was returned to her family on Sunday.

The suspect was arrested and released from custody after appearing in the Kagiso Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

“A case of kidnapping and assault are being investigated by the police. The victim was found and returned safely to her family.

“We are also investigating claims that the drug dealer made sexual advances to the victim, but charges will be added at a later stage depending on the evidence gathered,” Sibiya said.

A police source said the young woman went to the house of the alleged drug dealer as she had intentions of buying drugs.

“It turns out that the dealer didn’t want her to leave, she was kept there against her will as the dealer wanted to have sex with her in exchange for drugs,” the source said.

The source further said that the young woman’s family had confronted the dealer as recently as three-weeks ago in a bid to prevent him from selling drugs to her.

Sowetan visited her home yesterday but she declined to speak to the media.

Lungelo David, a self-proclaimed nyaope addict, said cases of sex for drugs in the area were common.

He said sometimes young girls spend days in drug dens, binging and having sex with dealers to feed their habit.

“It’s something that we all know because we see it almost on a daily basis.

“Girls who are addicted to drugs in KG [Kagiso] often sleep with dealers because they don’t have money to buy drugs from them,” David said.

Sipho Dlamini, a youth facilitator at Kagiso youth centre, said they were fighting a losing battle. “A holistic approach needs to be adopted and implemented.

“Our anti-drug programme aims at helping not only addicts, but their families as well on how to support their loved ones,” Dlamini said.
