Menzi has revival plan

Ex-Bucs midfielder seeks brighter prospects at Celtic

- By Sihle Ndebele

Redemption is what former Orlando Pirates midfielder Menzi Masuku hopes to accomplish at his new club Bloemfontein Celtic. Masuku joined Celtic from Chippa United earlier this month, signing a twoand-a-half year deal.

At Pirates, the 24-year-old attacking midfielder was seen as one of SA’s future stars but after moving to Chippa in 2016, he failed to live up to expectations. “Celtic is a great club with vibrant supporters. I am positive that I can get back to my best with this club,” said Masuku. “I still have big dreams. I know that I must work hard to achieve those dreams. “I want to get back to my best form so that I will boost my dream of playing in Europe.’’

At the Buccaneers, the Durban-born attacker made 22 appearances in all competitions between 2014 and 2016, scoring four goals.

He feels his Pirates stint was successful and a big learning curve.

“I enjoyed myself a lot. I cannot say I failed at Pirates. Whenever I was given the opportunity, I contributed to the team. “I learnt a lot of things there and I will always appreciate what I learnt during my stay,’’ said Masuku, who has already made three appearances for the City of Roses club since his switch from the Friendly City’s Chippa.

He is positive that Phunya Sele Sele will get back to winning ways soon, having gone five games without a victory. Their last win (2-1) was against Lamontville Golden Arrows earlier this month.

“The results have not been forthcoming but that’s football. It just a matter of time before we start winning again,’’ he said.
