New deals for United’s veterans delight Gould
Yeye, Morgan and Daniels rewarded
SuperSport United defender Morgan Gould has been rewarded with a one-year contract extension by the club.
Gould, who turns 35 in March, was Matsatsantsa’s Player of the Season in the past campaign and continues to be one of their regulars.
“My contract has been extended, yes,” Gould confirmed to Sowetan yesterday. “Basically, what SuperSport do is, if you do the business on the field, they will do what’s right [extend your stay], and I’m so happy to be a part of such a great institution,” he said.
The Tshwane side has also extended the contracts of Clayton Daniels by two years and Reneilwe Letsholonyane by one year with an option to extend. Daniels is now 33 and Letsholonyane is 35.
Gould said their roles extend to guiding the younger players, who will take over when they eventually leave. “We are ageing, so what’s better for us is to help the new kids on the block that have signed for SuperSport, and also add value to ourselves after football.”
It’s all good, however, that the three players have new contracts, but the team is struggling at the moment. They face AmaZulu tonight at Lucas Moripe Stadium (7.30pm).
Gould acknowledged their poor form and has urged the side to collect maximum points. “AmaZulu is coached by a former SuperSport coach [Cavin Johnson] and he knows most of the guys, but nevertheless it’s crunch time for both teams,” he said.
AmaZulu, meanwhile, will be looking to do the double over SuperSport. When the two sides met over 10 days ago, Usuthu emerged 2-0 winners at King Zwelithini Stadium.
