Testing time for Pitso’s boys

Downs eye league, Cup and CAF glory

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is treading carefully as the league race enters the final stretch.

The Brazilians are sitting pretty at the top with 38 points from 20 matches. They are followed by Orlando Pirates, who have accumulated 33 points, but the Buccaneers have played one more match than Sundowns.

Free State Stars (32), Kaizer Chiefs (31) and Cape Town City (31) complete the top five.

Mosimane, who has won two league titles with the Tshwane side, is watching over his opponents.

“The games are getting smaller, and as the games get smaller try and be where you are, you know,” he said.

“Sometimes you can turn the volume a little bit lower. You can’t be playing full blast; you play full blast when it’s a party, neh. Sometimes you just want the music in the background in your house when you are busy with something ... and sometimes you work on your laptop, so you play a little bit of a low tone.

“You can’t play one tone or drive at the same speed everyday. Sometimes I’m not in a rush to go home, I’m going home and I will keep the left lane and take 60km an hour.

“The league is like that. You got to play the right music. You can’t play Rock n Roll in the morning. You got to play the right music in the morning and as the day progresses, you can just build up,” he added.

Sundowns will face Free State Stars at Loftus Versveld Stadium on Wednesday, and will also be home for the Tshwane derby against SuperSport United at the same venue three days later.

With the CAF Champions League coming up next month and still being involved in the Nedbank Cup, it will be a testing period for Mosimane’s charges.
