Ace tears into politics of patronage

Ncobo says Jordaan not fit for Safa position

- By Daniel Mothowagae

Instead of launching the manifesto of his campaign in the running for the Safa presidency, Ace Ncobomade an aboutturn and went on a tirade over the legitimacy of the nomination process.

Addressing the media yesterday, the former referee insisted therewere “many violations” of the Safa electoral code, and that he had written to world football governing body Fifa to intervene.

“The moment we start publishing a manifesto, we’ll be legitimising a highly fraudulent process, whose sole objective seeks to re-entrench the politics of patronage that Danny Jordaan represents,” Ncobo said during a press conference at FNB Stadium yesterday.

He and Jordaan have emerged as the only two contenders for the Safa top seat.

He also did not spare punches at Jordaan’s campaign vehicle, the Football Transformation Forum (FTF) .

Ncobo said he had “exchanged more than 100 emails with the CEO of Safa [Dennis Mumble] in trying to assist them to understand that this elective congress is illegal”.

Ncobo argued that Safa must consider “restarting the entire process and doing it correctly”.

He said the response from Safa was threatening.

Asked why he accepted the nomination if the process was flawed, Ncobo said: “The only reason was to gain what legal gurus call a locus-standing, the officialdom to be able to write and be replied to – not because I want to be president of Safa.

“There are better people to take that position. Danny does not deserve to sit in that position - he must go home.

“As things stand now, we are going to defend Safa and Fifa statues from being raped – pun intended,” Ncobo said as a parting shot.

Safa national executive member Mzwandile Maforvane said Ncobo should not have accepted his nomination from the onset, if he felt the process was flawed.

“Why did he accept his nom- ination? Unless if he wants to say his nomination was fraudulent,” said Maforvane.

“As for FTF, we abide by our own principles and we can’t make Ace like us.”

Maforvane maintained the elections would go ahead.
