Hachi hopes to return to Sundowns

Algerian says he improved while on loan

Mamelodi Sundowns’ leftback Fares Hachi, who is on loan at Chippa United, hopes to return to the Brazilians when his loan spell expires in June.

Hachi joined Sundowns as a free agent in February last year, becoming the first Algerian to ply his trade in South Africa, but limited game time saw him being loaned out to Chippa this January.

“I am still a Sundowns player. I know I will return there and fight for my place because here I am playing every week. I needed this loan move to prove my quality and that I am capable of adapting to any situation,” Hachi told Sowetan.

“I will go back at Sundowns very strong. I am now 80% fit as I am still working hard to regain full fitness. My confidence is now improving and it helps my performances,” said the full-back who has since started four of Chippa’s past five games.

At the Brazilians, Hachi was playing second fiddle to Tebogo Langerman. The Algerian feels the difference between him and the SA international is that he is a bit slow.

“Langerman is quicker. I am not the quickest player. I also have other qualities that he does not have. We have different styles and it depends on the coach as to who he prefers,” noted Hachi.

Chippa have a new coach, Vladislav Heric. They are 12th on log, however. Hachi still believes their top eight dream is still alive.

“We must not give up on finishing inside the top eight. At this moment, the only thing that will help us is to fight for each other on the field of play.”

After Free State Stars eliminated them from the Nedbank Cup at the weekend, the Chilli Boys will be out for revenge when they host the same Bethlehem-based side at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in a league encounter on Saturday.
