Perfect harmony of flavours
Joburg socialite and bubbly lover Deborah Bailey recently launched a cookbook inspired by her travels around the world. It is a compilation of her own recipes to be enjoyed over a glass of wine, or cooked with wine.
What inspired your passion for cooking?
My true passion comes from the joy I see on my family and friends’ faces. In my early 20s I spent time travelling in the US and I guess that is where all began, visiting different cities, trying out different foods.
What have been your highlights so far?
Putting all the love I have for cooking on the pages of my book, seeing it all come to life.
What is your favourite dish and drink?
I love spicey food so it would have to be the lamb biryani. My favourite drink is bubbly.
Which food culture is embedded in your soul?
I would have to say Asian.
Any interesting example of cooking with wine?
A slow-cooked oxtail falling off the bone and melting in your mouth has to have a good red wine included .
What would you regard as your signature dish?
Lamb biryani, it’s a labour of love.
What is your biggest extravagance?
Apart from my GSTAR RAW jeans, it would have to be travelling and eating out at the best restaurants in town.
