Rock My Soul looks the danger

-

Justin Snaith is undoubtedly going to be crowned champion trainer at the end of this season, and he stands a massive chance of collecting more silverware when ultra-consistent Doublemint lines up in the Grade 3 Highlands Stud Winter Derby at Kenilworth tomorrow.

Heavy rain showers caused the postponement of last Saturday’s event, and as a result only nine of the original 10 acceptors for the 2400m contest will compete.

The absence of unbeaten Rainbow Bridge makes Doublemint a massive contender for top honours. He ran an encouraging fourth in the Guineas following a four-month stint off the racetrack, and then followed up with a third in the Classic, beaten just 1.50 lengths.

Doublemint has the most inspiring form in the field, and is in fact yet to run out of the money in nine career outings. This three-year-old was an impressive 1.50-length victor in an 1800m contest two runs back, suggesting he’ll be better suited to the extra 600m. Considering this is only his third run after a rest, he’ll strip a lot fitter and should make winning improvement.

Snaith’s charge appears far better than his merit rating of 99 suggests, and much appears to be in the Twice Over gelding’s favour. He tops the best weighted column and is drawn No 6.

Joey Ramsden saddles the main danger Rock My Soul, a proven stayer who impressively made light work of rivals in his last outing when cruising to a 0.40-length triumph over the course and distance under Grant van Niekerk.

Quartet players should float Doublemint and Rock My Soul with Spring Man, Ancestry, Ballad Of The Sea, Love Happens and Power Tower.
