Second-placed Wits seek maximum points against University of Limpopo
A win will reduce gap behind UJ
Wits University won’t be taking the University of Limpopo (UL) lightly when they host the men from the north in Johannesburg today for their men’s Varsity Football league clash.
The Braamfontein-based outfit currently sits in second position on the table, behind arch-rivals University of Johannesburg, and will want a victory over their Limpopo counterparts to catch up.
With the competition coming to a close and the semifinals only two rounds away, Limpopo will need to use this opportunity to claim their first win in the competition this season.
Wits vice-captain Mahle Mtabane explained his side won’t underestimate the winless UL.
“Playing against a wounded team is always difficult. We know UL is going to come hard at us looking for their first win in the campaign. All we have to do is carry on working hard and to maintain our own style of play,” Mtabane said.
“I think it’s safe to say that this will be our toughest match, so it would be best to stay mentality prepared and do not underestimate them.
“The past two years we’ve been in a similar situation in this tournament so they will be coming hard at us, I’m certain of that. They have nothing to lose, unlike us.”
The match is scheduled for Wits Stadium, at 4pm today.
