Gaston Sirino demonstrated why Pitso Mosimane has backed him to become the Footballer of the Season with a tantalising brace that catapulted Sundowns to a 3-1 demolition of Free State Stars last night. The victory has appetised the taste buds before Saturday’s showdown between Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. Bucs were the last team to beat Sundowns in the league earlier in the year. Sundowns fielded what can be described as an express pace line-up that had Lyle Lakay as the left wing-back while Aubrey Ngoma was in attacking midfield. Jeremy Brockie finally snapped his goal drought after scoring his maiden official goal for the club in the 12th minute since his arrival in January.

The home side doubled their lead when Sirino converted from the penalty spot in the 25th minute after Ngoma won a penalty.

Sirino was at it again two minutes later with a moment of brilliance when he unleashed a thunderbolt with his left foot. Eventually, Stars’ Congolese striker Harris Tchilimbou’s tenacity paid off when he scored inside the box from a Judas Moseamedi cross.
