SA cannot afford to host Afcon, there’s plenty to fix
With youth unemployment rate standing at a staggering 50% and a high inflation rate, we need to be very careful about every decision we take as a country.
As much as South Africa is a soccermad country, we can’t be seen to be the “yes men” to CAF. Safa must decline the offer from CAF to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, which will cost the country about R150m.
This money can be used to fight HIVAids, to bring about better education, improve sanitation, build houses for the poor and create employment. Safa is itself in deep financial crisis.
