Steve steals a point in Bloem

Mutizwa’s quality strike ensures a draw for Arrows

- By Sowetan Reporter

Knox Mutizwa’s low-driven free-kick in the second half spared Golden Arrows coach Steve Komphela blushes against his former side Bloemfontein Celtic yesterday. Kabelo Dlamini had handed Celtic the lead a minute before the half-time break, but Mutizwa’s strike denied Phunya Sele maximum points under scorching weather conditions at Dr Molemela Stadium. It was Komphela’s first return to Celtic since abandoning the Free State-based side for Arrows three weeks ago. His return triggered a stayaway by Phunya Sele Sele fans, who were nowhere to be seen at the Mangaung venue yesterday.

Apart from Dlamini’s goal, the first half was far from entertaining as both teams failed to keep possession or threatened each other.

Had he put enough power behind the ball, Siboniso Conco should have given Arrows the lead in the first 10 minutes of the match but his effort was easily saved by Celtic keeper Patrick Tignyemb.

Both teams improved in the second stanza and started to play with purpose. With the visitors pushing for the equaliser, their defence looked vulnerable and Celtic managed numerous break-attacks but misused them. Arrows’ dominance paid off four minutes after the hour mark when Knox Mutizwa curved a neat free-kick, giving a hapless Tignyemb no chance.
