Soweto Derby tickets sell from R50

Pirates look to extend dominance over Chiefs

Tickets for the Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on February 9 have gone on sale, Pirates announced on their website yesterday. “Fans are urged to go out as soon as possible to purchase their tickets to avoid any disappointment. According to hosts for this upcoming derby Kaizer Chiefs, tickets are already on sale at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide,” Pirates said. The tickets will sell for R50, R70 and R150.

Pirates won all the derbies last year, beating their rivals Chiefs 2-1 in two league meetings at the Nasrec venue. They also beat by the same scoreline in the Telkom Knockout semifinal played at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Meanwhile, Pirates moved to the top of Group B in the CAF Champions League following a 3-0 win over Horoya of Guinea on Friday evening. The Buccaneers are number one in the group with a superior goal difference to that of Tunisian giants Esperance, who defeated Zimbabwe’s Platinum 2-0.

A brace from Justin Shonga and a goal by Thembinkosi Lorch helped Bucs subject Horoya to their first defeat on SA soil after they had previously forced draws against Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United.

“It was not as easy as the result suggests,” said Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic. “We had to really take care defensively because this team has scored nine goals almost all from inside the box. “Hence we had to focus on defending in front of the box and stopping the ball from entering into that area, and I believe we did that very well – we cut out the opponents opportunities from that aspect.” Pirates return to domestic action tomorrow when they take on Baroka, who vanquished them in the Telkom Knockout final in December. Harry Winks headed home a 93rd minute winner to give Tottenham’s chances of securing a top-four Premier League finish a huge boost and deal another blow to Fulham’s hopes of survival with a 2-1 win at Craven Cottage.
