R8m theft from legends just a hiccup

- By Patience Bambalele

The R8m stolen from the Living Legends Legacy Project (LLLP) of the department of arts and culture will not stop some of the planned programmes from going ahead. Singer and acting chair of LLLP, Letta Mbulu, told Sowetan yesterday that certain workshops will still go ahead, despite payment challenges they will face as organisers. The LLLP project got a boost last year when minister of arts and culture Nathi Mthethwa donated R8m which was kept in a trust fund account at FNB. However, it came to light two weeks ago that the money had been cleaned out since September. A case of theft has been opened.

Singer and actress Abigail Kubeka said: “Since we are unemployable like the younger generation, the minister decided to give us money to help put projects together to create jobs for us and impart knowledge. We had planned to start working this month.”
