Young people deserve better

-

I’ve been observing the parliamentary proceedings, only to see grannies playing hide and seek with EFF youngsters. I would like to see more young people in parliament because the cabinet has turned into an old-age home. The oldaged ANC members still move door-todoor campaigning to be re-elected to power in the coming national elections. How long shall we be promised manna from heaven, but be left emptyhanded? Before former president Jacob Zuma left office, he did promise the legion of unemployed youth some million jobs; the poor youth are still waiting for those jobs even today. The ANC keeps making the same promises, which after elections grow wings and fly away from their lips. In fact, politicians take us for a ride for the sake of our votes.

In the next national elections, we must elect the party which puts the interests of the people first and not people who only think for their stomachs. Our vote is our voice and we can harness it to bring change. If President Cyril Ramaphosa wants to secure our vote, he must address youth unemployment, uncontrolled entry of illegal foreign nationals and escalating crime which chases investors away. I would like to urge the next government to create jobs for young people instead of providing them with grants like the elderly. Ramaphosa should create a favourable atmosphere to attract foreign investment. We should stop racial tensions, endless destructive protests and prevent criminal activities to win investors’ confidence.

If the EFF wants to secure our votes, it should prove that our vote will not be wasted for their own benefit. We are sick and tired of dishonest, corrupt and unaccountable leaders whose tongues drip with honeyed promises. Think carefully before you tick on the ballot.
