Chiefs meet City in cup quarterfinal
Clever Boys to test Chippa in Ke Yona
It was touted as potentially a final match-up, but the reality is that Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City will meet in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals after the draw was held in Johannesburg last night.
There were gasps in the audience at the SuperSport TV studios where Amakhosi were drawn against the Citizens. It’s arguably the biggest clash of the last eight and could have made for a great final.
Chiefs are desperate for silverware, being in their fourth season without a trophy, but the Mother City outfit would be buoyed by their cup success that has seen them win the Telkom Knockout and MTN8 since John Comitis bought Mpumalanga Black Aces and renamed the club in 2016.
Whoever wins this round would be heavy favourites to go on and win the Nedbank Cup, dubbed “Ke Yona”.
But it’s not called the cup of surprises for nothing and at this stage, any team would fancy their chances.
The PSL’s current top side, Bidvest Wits will entertain Chippa United, who are resurgent under Clinton Larsen and the Clever Boys’ Gavin Hunt will be treading carefully.
The quarterfinals will be played at the end of March. THE DRAW
Bidvest Wits v Chippa United Bloemfontein Celtic v Golden Arrows
Kaizer Chiefs v Cape Town City Cape Umoya v TS Galaxy
