Mtukudzi’s daughter humbled
Local stars pay tribute to ‘Tuku’
Singer Selmor Mtukudzi is full of praises after local stars paid tribute to her late father Oliver Mtukudzi through a dazzling performance in Ekurhuleni on Friday night. The Oliver Mtukudzi Tribute Concert was hosted by Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg, and it featured music stars such as Ringo Madlingozi, Mmatema Moremi, The Levites, Beyond Vocal and Jazzmelozo.
The legendary international musician succumbed to a long battle with diabetes in January, at the age of 66.
She said the loss was still difficult for her and family.
Mtukudzi, who is established in her own right, attended the tribute concert. She said the concert was a humbling experience to them.
The singer thanked both local stars and the venue, for celebrating her father’s legacy in a special way.
“I know what a special relationship you [Birchwood Hotel] had with our father. Thank you for honouring our hero in such a beautiful way. “It’s a wonderful idea. Dr Oliver Mtukudzi was a legend to the world. It is humbling to see the people, especially those who worked with him, come together to organise such a beautiful event in his honour.” She said she had a jol and was wooed by a capella group called Beyond Vocal.
