Former Ukhozi FM radio presenter Ngizwe Mchunu is still shaken after his wife was allegedly threatened by two gunmen on Monday night.

The incident took place around 6pm when the woman, who Mchunu didn’t want to name for safety reasons, was driving his car with a friend in Verulam, Durban.

Two men, who appeared to have been following the vehicle, stood in front of the car while his wife waited for a robot to turn green.

They allegedly pulled out guns but did not shoot.

Mchunu, whose contract was not renewed by the station, has opened a case of intimidation and his wife did the same.

Provincial police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane confirmed that two cases of intimidation were opened at Phoenix police station.

Zwane further said the police were still investigating and no one has been arrested.

Mchunu said: “I believe that they did not shoot her because they realised that it was not me. I have no doubt that if it was me they would have killed me.

“My wife still cannot get over what happened to her. She is currently receiving counselling because of the incident.”

Asked who wanted him dead, Mchunu said: “I know who is after me. And he knows that I am aware of his actions.”

According to sources, Mchunu has been receiving threats for two years.

They are said to have started shortly after he blew a whistle on the corruption that was happening at Ukhozi FM.
