5 carryovers boost the chances of big payouts

LIVERPOOL AND MANCHESTER CITY ARE LOOKING JADED

- By Mark Gleeson

With five TAB carryovers into a range of soccer pools this weekend, there are big pools and handsome payouts on the cards for TAB football customers.

You need a few upsets to get big payouts and there are every chance of those in the next couple of days, both in the Premier Soccer League and across European leagues.

The PSL’s top two contenders do not play league games this weekend, so there is a chance for several teams to show they are top-four material and for the strugglers to show some form.

The PSL has an extraordinary traffic jam from mid-table to bottom with just four points separating last-placed Chippa United and Bloemfontein Celtic in eighth place, and that could all change after the weekend’s games which provide a chance for those in relegation territory to claw their way to higher ground.

In the Premier League in England there are a similar set of tricky fixtures awaiting the top contenders, which ordinarily would offer simple choices but are now complicated by uninspiring form and injuries.

Liverpool and Manchester City both looked jaded and a touch insipid in their Champions League outings in midweek and have key players out this weekend.

Pep Guardiola will certainly not be looking forward to the away trip to Newcastle United tomorrow and while Liverpool are favoured to beat Brighton at home later the same day, they are a team with the potential to end the Reds’ unbeaten run in the league.

There is also massive focus on the future of several managers this week, starting with Arsenal’s Unai Emery whose side sit in eighth place and without a win in their last five league games.

The Gunners must win away at mercurial Norwich, who have taken a couple of major scalps this season, if Emery is to avoid the sack.

Also precariously close to the guillotine is Marco Silva, who takes Everton to second-placed Leicester City. The Toffees have been poor this season and sit two places above the relegation places.
