Trump visit did not benefit India

-

US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump recently completed their two-day trip to India, attracting attention from millions in India and around the world.

This visit created comprehensive critic among many Indians. The reason is simple; the Indian government spent multimillion rupees to give rapturous welcome to Trump and India did not get any trade deal. The trip will prove a huge expenditure for Indian economy.

Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed many national and international problems and agreed upon fighting terrorism. But astonishingly, both of them did not utter a single world on how to eradicate poverty in India.

Trump, who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, has not experienced poverty the way many in India live it.

But Modi was a tea vendor; he had seen poverty closely. How he forgot to bring the poverty forward in his agenda, and ask Trump government to help the poor section of India’s population, is mind-boggling . Many in India die daily due to poverty and hunger. Many people in India are not fortunate enough to have a single meal a day.

Trump and his wife visited the beautiful Taj Mahal, a wonder of the world, and admired the Indian history and culture. But that monument of a palace reflects the beauty of love, which is a great message that should flow through all of us as humans.

The Trumps also visited the Mahatma Gandhi Ashram, but proper honour for the great statesman Gandhi will be putting his values and principles of nonviolence, and equality into practice. Poor Indians gained nothing from this Trump trip, whose highlight was to clinch an arms deal with India. When will Modi government understand US foreign policy?
