Lockdown has unleashed some hidden talents

- Melato Mphahlele, Zebediela

Conversations about the coronavirus pandemic should not be limited to the pain, anxiety and despair it has brought us. There is a sense of hope and positives many realised because of the situation they found themselves in.

Many people found themselves without a job as companies and businesses closed down. Some of the retrenched people did not waste time exploring new ideas to make a living. The “free time” gave many people time to revisit their special talents they had abandoned as they went to look for jobs.

We all have talents we never got a chance to follow because we were expected to go and look for “good” jobs in the cities. These talents include writing, cooking, hairdressing, telling jokes and singing among many.

It was during this period that people got enough time to work on their potential and used social media platforms to showcase and market their businesses and talents. We now have people who can make a living out of their talents and no longer talk about losing jobs but creating jobs.

If it was not for the situation we are confronted with, many of us would still be trapped in unhappy jobs.
